FOREDOFICO
After their workshop in Beirut, Astrakan‘s leading team, Simone Alvez (voice) and Yann Gourvil (guitars, Ꜥūd, sāz etc.) went on and published their first album ; soon after, Yann decided to finish the mix of the Beirut session which is now available for downloading. Yann featured also an interesting percussion instrument for the published album.

Research groups CERMAA, ICONEA and PLM have the pleasure of calling for papers for the second issue of NEMO on the theme of ‘Modality in all its forms’. All papers welcome including Occidental forms of modality and should respect editorial terms and conditions.

The editorial and the summary page are available online. The hard copy (Price = 40 €) is distributed by Geuthner, France and downloadable from December 2013.

CERMAA welcomed recently Jean During, a senior researcher at CNRS – France. Jean During led three interviews on June 03 2012 with renowned Lebanese music teachers and musicians Imane Homsy (qanun), Joseph Loueizeh (teacher of singing and numerous other activities – member of CERMAA and founding member of FOREDOFICO) and Saad Saab (`ud teacher and performer – President of FOREDOFICO and member of CERMAA). He was accompanied by Amine Beyhom for CERMAA.
The subject of the interviews was “Music Aesthetics”.
Jean During is also a member of the Academic Board of NEMO-Online, the Musicological Journal co-founded by CERMAA, ICONEA (British Museum and University of London) and PLM (Université de la Sorbonne – France).

Amine Beyhom, Director of CERMAA, presented a conference with Erik Marchand on the 16th of November, and a paper on un-tempered instruments the next day.
Un atelier de musiques bretonnes a été organisé au CNSML (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique au Liban) à l’initiative du CERMAA et de FOREDOFICO, en collaboration avec la direction du conservatoire. Le musicien Yann Gourvil et la chanteuse Simone Alvez, invités par le CERMAA et FOREDOFICO, ont dirigé l’atelier le jeudi 26 avril dans la salle d’audition du conservatoire à Sinn El-Fil (Beyrouth – Liban), de midi à 15:00 heures. L’atelier a été accompagné et suivi d’un concert dont un chant en création par les deux musiciens.
Une interview de Radio-Liban a été recueillie auprès des musiciens et des organisateurs.
Ceci est le premier parmi ce que nous espérons devenir une série d’ateliers sur les musiques du Monde (et les autres) au Liban.

We published as today our second bibliography which specialises in the Systematist period.
We are proud to announce that we have started to implement the bibliography of Arabian and Mediteranean musics on Cermaa’s website.
The first bibliography published to day is the Ꜥūd Bibliography, to be found under “Bibliography > Ꜥūd Bibliography“. It comprises a reasoned choice of references on the Ꜥūd, to be further enriched with time.
